Ride-Alongs & Job Shadows

We offer students the chance to learn firsthand what it’s like to serve as a firefighter and paramedic. Through ride-alongs and job shadows, students can experience our daily work, see how we respond to emergencies, and learn about careers in public safety.

How to Schedule

These opportunities are available for high school and college students interested in public safety careers. Priority is given to students completing coursework, career exploration projects, or training requirements.

When contacting us to request a student ride-along or shadow, please include:

  • Preferred date(s) and time(s)

  • Whether you’re requesting a ride-along or a job shadow

  • Your age and school/educational program

  • The reason for your request (class requirement, career exploration, etc.)

  • Emergency contact information

  • Any forms required by your school or program

Reach out to the Assistant Chief of EMS at 715-824-2699 or via email at info@amherstfd.org

Student participants will be expected to follow all safety rules, respect patient confidentiality, and remain under the supervision of our staff at all times. Additional requirements may include parental consent (for minors), proof of enrollment, training permit or completion of liability forms before the experience can be scheduled.
