Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
As we are all trying to navigate the effects of Coronavirus (COVID-19) we have made a few changes to the Amherst Fire District daily practices. With this change we have cancelled public education events, station tours and fire inspections for the foreseeable future, similar to many other agencies and events in the area.
We are also asking that community members limit visits to our facility. The most common stop to the station this time of year is for burning permits and burning permit questions. Below are instructions for securing a burning permit online. If you feel you need anything else please call (715-824-5511 or 715-824-2699) before you come to the station.
If you are in need of a burning permit or would like to check the daily burning restrictions please visit the DNR website at https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/ForestFire/permits.html. Obtaining a burning permit online is a very quick and easy process.
While we understand the coronavirus and the possibilities associated with it, we have elected to take these safety measure as a means to reducing any additional chance of exposure to our members, aside from emergency calls for service. This move will limit exposure to our members so they can remain healthy and able to help the citizens we serve.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the station at (715) 824-5511 or (715) 824-2699.
The Amherst Fire District is located in Portage County, Wisconsin.
Our organization provides many different services to a large portion of eastern Portage County.
AFD is comprised of 3 distinct branches of service. Fire/Rescue, First Responders and Ambulance, you will find them all detailed in the Services section of our website.
All branches of the AFD are staffed by local members working as Paid on Call and Paid on Site employees. The Amherst area is a growing community including the surrounding rural areas and nearby Villages of Amherst Jct. and Nelsonville.
The Amherst Fire District strives to keep pace with the anticipated needs of the local emergency responders. Our members are not satisfied with status quo. We are continually working towards the future through advanced training, planned capitol improvements and member retention and recruitment to name a few.
I am proud of the Amherst Fire District and it is my pleasure to have you as a guest to our website. I hope you find the information exciting and educational. I encourage you to visit again as we up date our page.
